BA's Children’s Bookselling Group announces The Somerset Tsunami by Emma Carroll as Indie Book of the Month
01/10/2019
The BA Children’s Bookselling Group has announced
The Somerset Tsunami
by Emma Carroll as its
Independent Booksellers’ Children’s Book of the Month
for October.
From the author of
Letters from the Lighthouse
and
Frost Hollow Hall,
The Somerset Tsunami
follows Fortune Sharpe, a young girl sent away from home to find work dressed as a boy. She is soon employed at a manor house, but Barrow Hill's inhabitants harbour dangerous secrets of their own, the suspicious owner is hunting for witches, and the house itself is a little too close to the sea.
On the book’s selection, Emma Carroll said,
"Every indie bookshop has its own character, its own smell. Each one is living, breathing proof that we love to see books, to touch them and talk about them with expert booksellers. They are unique, magical places."
Emma Bradshaw, Head of Campaigns at the BA, commented:
“The Somerset Tsunami is a thrilling story, following the brilliant Fortune Sharpe on her adventures at the dangerous Barrow Hill. We are so pleased that the panel has selected Emma Carroll’s exciting story as Children’s Book of the Month for October.”
Chosen by a panel of independent booksellers from a range of new children’s titles, the
Book of the Month
showcases independent bookshops’ expertise at promoting and selling children’s books.
Independent bookshops around the UK and Ireland will be promoting
The Somerset Tsunami
throughout October. The BA will be supporting the promotion of the Children’s Book of the Month through social media and promotional materials. Emma Carroll will be taking part in bookshop events to promote
The Somerset Tsunami
, and signed copies will be available from Faber for BA members.
