POG by Pádraig Kenny announced as April’s Indie Book of the Month
01/04/2019
The BA Children’s Bookselling Group has announced POG by Pádraig Kenny, published by
Chicken House
, as its Independent Booksellers’ Children’s Book of the Month for April.
From the author of Tin, POG follows David and Penny, who move to a new home in the forest, where magical creatures like Pog protect the boundary between worlds. Amongst the creatures, something darker lives in the woods, which draws David in with the promise to bring back his mother. .
On hearing of the book’s selection, Pádraig Kenny commented,
"I’m honoured that POG has been chosen as the BA Independent Children’s Book of the Month. I’m especially honoured because for me independent book shops throughout Britain and Ireland have always been a refuge, places of real vitality where books aren’t simply sold but where children’s reading is nurtured and valued."
Emma Bradshaw, Head of Campaigns at the BA, commented:
“POG is a heartfelt adventure, filled with original and enchanting characters. We are so pleased that this touching story has been chosen as Children’s Book of the Month for April.”
Chosen by a panel of independent booksellers from a range of new children’s titles, the Book of the Month showcases independent bookshops’ expertise at promoting and selling children’s books.
Independent bookshops around the UK and Ireland will be promoting POG throughout April. The BA will be supporting the promotion of the Children’s Book of the Month through
social media and promotional materials
, including posters, badges, bookmarks, and stickers. Booksellers will also be supporting the Children’s Book of the Month on social media.
