Bookshop.org
, the online bookstore on a mission to support independent bookshops, has completed a £1.5m angel fundraising round to add audiobooks and ebooks to its UK platform.
Bookshop.org
are planning to launch the sale of audiobooks and ebooks via their platform in Autumn 2024.
Audiobooks
The Bookshop.org offer for customers will be a monthly subscription at £12.99 per month for a single audiobook. Bookshops will earn
20% commission on each title
and will access this commission via their account, just as they already do for print books:
no additional set up is required.
Affiliation will work as it does for print books
: customers can either come through a link you share or choose you from the bookshop map on our site. As with print books, any audio subscriptions not affiliated to a bookshop will generate
10% contribution to the bookshop profit pool
, which is then shared equally among all participating bookshops.
Ebooks
Ebooks will launch at the same time but will be sold on an
à la carte basis only
, with affiliation working just as it does with print books. Commission on all ebooks will be
30% of the selling price.
Booksellers on the platform will be able to add ebooks and audiobooks to their websites and Bookshop.org affiliate pages seamlessly.
Mobile app
Both audiobooks and ebooks will be bought on the Bookshop.org website and
listened to or read in Bookshop.org’s new mobile app
which will be available at launch for customers to enjoy a high quality reading or listening experience. Once customers have purchased the title or redeemed a credit for a title on our site, they will get an email to prompt them to download the app (if they already have the app, a link to find the title in their account on the app).
More information will be made available to booksellers in due course.
