Bookselling Ireland delighted to reveal dates and Ambassadors for Irish Book Week 2024
29/07/2024
Bookselling Ireland,
the committee of Booksellers Association members representing bookshops big and small from across Ireland, together with Publishing Ireland, is delighted to announce that
Irish Book Week
2024 will take place from Saturday, 19
th
October until Saturday, 26
th
October 2024.
Bookselling Ireland is also thrilled to reveal the stunning artwork for this year’s campaign, which was produced by well-known children’s illustrator and author, Úna Woods, who has also come on board as a campaign Ambassador. Joining Úna as Ambassadors this year is Laureate na nÓg & children’s author, Patricia Forde and fiction author, Felicity Hayes-McCoy.
Now in its 7
th
year, Irish Book Week is a nationwide celebration of Irish bookshops, Irish books, publishers, writers, illustrators, and poets. The campaign aims to encourage people from across Ireland to visit their local bookshops to discover and enjoy a range of exciting and interesting events, readings, parties, displays and much more.
Dawn Behan, Chair of Bookselling Ireland, said,
“It is a great pleasure to announce details of our 7
th
annual Irish Book Week campaign and we are delighted to reveal the stunning artwork from the very talented, Úna Woods. We are really looking forward to working with our Ambassadors and with our members from all across the country on some exciting events and activities that will take place during the week long celebrations in October.”
Speaking about Irish Book Week, Peter McKay, President of Publishing Ireland, commented,
Booksellers are an essential part of Irish cultural life and a vital part of the publishing ecosystem. Since 2018, Publishing Ireland has partnered with Bookselling Ireland to bring you Irish Book Week. In that week we celebrate the role of bookshops in Irish culture and entertainment and also their positive impact on the economy.
Across Europe, publishing generates more revenue than any other single cultural activity and Ireland plays its part in that success. Dublin’s status as an UNESCO City of Literature (one of fewer than fifty cities worldwide) is a marker of that status. Irish Book Week will be a truly marvelous time, but don’t wait until October, give yourself a treat and visit your local bookshop this week and then, make a habit of it.”
