Little Bear’s Spring announced as Indie Book of the Month for March
01/03/2019
The BA Children’s Bookselling Group has announced
Little Bear’s Spring
by Elli Woollard and Briony May Smith as its Independent Booksellers’ Children’s Book of the Month for March.
From the author of Swashbuckle Lil series,
Little Bear’s Spring
is the beautifully illustrated tale of a little bear, an unlikely friendship and how the coming of springtime can change everything. It is available to buy now, published by Macmillan.
Responding to the book’s selection, Elli Woollard praised the role of independent bookshops,
"I am absolutely thrilled that Little Bear's Spring has been chosen as Children's Book of the Month. It is thanks to the passion, dedication and enthusiasm of independent booksellers that the book industry is kept alive. Each independent bookshop is a unique treasure trove, and delving into them is a magical experience. Long may they continue!"
Illustrator Briony May Smith added,
“There is something wonderful about a bookshop that I can’t quite explain, such a staple of the high streets, enduring and respected, always inviting. I have never been able to resist a bookshop, and since becoming an illustrator I’ve gained even more respect for them, how they can champion local book makers, cheer for the events and traditions of their local community.”
Emma Bradshaw, Head of Campaigns at the BA, commented:
“Little Bear’s Spring is a breathtakingly beautiful picture book. It’s a brilliant choice by the panel, and the perfect title to welcome the new season.”
Chosen by a panel of independent booksellers from a range of new children’s titles, the Book of the Month showcases independent bookshops’ expertise at promoting and selling children’s books.
Independent bookshops around the UK and Ireland will be promoting
Little Bear’s Spring
throughout March. The BA will be supporting the promotion of the Children’s Book of the Month through social media and promotional materials, including posters, badges, bookmarks, and stickers. Booksellers will also be supporting the Children’s Book of the Month on social media.
